Black Scholar Wins $45G ferragamo belt on waist Settlement Over Barneys Stop-frisk
A young black man who claimed Barneys and the new York Police Department profiled him for credit card fraud because he bought a $349 belt has won a $forty five,000 settlement from the city, according to officials.
Trayon Christian used his debit card to purchase a reversible, black-and-white Ferragamo belt from Barneys’ Upper East Facet flagship on April 27, 2013.
After he left, the Corona, Queens resident was hassled by two undercover NYPD detectives on Fifth Ave. and E. 60th St.a block away from the tony Madison Avenue department ferragamo belt on waist store, Christian alleged in an October 2013 lawsuit.
The cops detained Christian — who was an engineering pupil at the new York Metropolis School of Expertise, where he also held a work-study job — because they didn’t assume a younger, black man may lawfully buy the high-priced accessory, he stated.
Trayon Christian, who was arrested after shopping for a $300 Ferragano belt at Barney’s in April 2013, won a $45,000 settlement from town, according to officials.
“They mentioned my card wasn’t actual, it was faux. They mentioned someone at Barneys referred to as to report it,” Christian, who was 18 on the time of the alleged arrest, advised The Information in October 2013.
